KU Center for Sustainability Seeking Nominations

The KU Center for Sustainability is currently accepting nominations for the 9th Annual Sustainability Leadership Awards.  These awards recognize students, faculty and staff as well as programs and projects that have made important contributions to sustainability and have promoted the values of environmental, economic, and social responsibility.  The nominations should reflect outstanding leadership and creativity in addressing issues of sustainability on the KU campus and/or the community at large through education, research, service and innovation.  The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1. 

Award winners will be recognized during an award ceremony on Earth Day, April 22, at 3:30 p.m. at the Dance Pavilion.  Nominations forms are available at http://sustain.ku.edu/awards.

This year the Center for Sustainability has introduced a new leadership category; Energy Conservation while also continuing to recognize champions for sustainability in the following areas: 

Students who have:

*Engaged in sustainability-related projects on or off campus

*Raised awareness within their communities about environmental and social issues

*Conducted research on sustainability-related topics

*Inspired others to engage in sustainable practices

 

Faculty who have:

*Integrated concepts of sustainability into the curriculum

*Conducted research that contributed to a greater understanding of issues of sustainability

*Supported sustainability initiatives on or off campus

*Inspired students or colleagues to engage in sustainable practices, sustainability education or research

 

Staff who have:

*Conducted research and/or implemented projects to improve sustainable practices on campus

*Raised awareness about issues of sustainability within their department

*Supported sustainability initiatives on or off campus

*Inspired others to engage in sustainable practices

Programs/Projects that demonstrate:

*Sustainability research or project implementation that has a direct impact on campus sustainability

*Collaborative efforts to address issues of sustainability

 

Programs/Projects that demonstrate:

*Sustainability research or project implementation that has a direct impact on campus sustainability

*Collaborative efforts to address issues of sustainability on campus or in the broader community

*Increased awareness about environmental and social issues

*Students organizations, campus departments, or other campus groups are eligible

Social Justice efforts that have:

*Engaged in promoting equity for all members of the campus community

*Integrated issues of social and/or environmental justice into education, research, and/or outreach

*Inspired other students, faculty, and/or staff to address the issues of social and/or environmental justice

*Individuals or Programs/Projects are eligible

Energy conservation efforts that have:

*Exemplified a commitment to energy conservation throughout the year

*Engaged in energy conservation initiatives

*Inspired other to engage in energy conservation practices

*Individuals, campus departments, or building are eligible
