There are a number of opportunities available to students to help finance their education in Environmental Studies. Majors can apply for the Ruben Zadigan Scholarship in Environmental Studies, described below. Other scholarship opportunities, offered by various departments in the University of Kansas, as well as organizations outside the university, can be found by visiting the links to the right.

McNair Scholars Program

The University of Kansas McNair Scholars Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and is designed to prepare undergraduate students for graduate study and eventually careers in university teaching and research. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2011-2012 academic year. In order to qualify for aprticipation in the McNair Scholars Program, students must be sophomores, juniors or seniors who are either: low-income, first generation college students or from groups currently underrepresented in graduate education (African American, Native American, and Hispanic). In addition to this, applicants must have at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA and plan to attend graduate school.

The Ruben Zadigan Environmental Studies Scholarship

Thanks to the generous bequest by Ruben Zadigan, the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Kansas is able to offer various scholarships and awards to high-achieving, hard-working and devoted students majoring in Environmental Studies. During the school year, different award opportunities will be posted, distributed on the basis of the following categories:

  • Academic merit: for students achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Service and leadership: for those who have demonstrated commitment to improving the campus community and beyond
  • Research sponsorship: funding for students engaged in research projects
  • Study abroad: funding to support students studying environmental studies abroad
