General Information & Eligibility Requirements:

Environmental Studies undergraduate students interested in study abroad are eligible to apply for a Ruben Zadigan Undergraduate Scholarship in Environmental Studies to assist with the financial impact. The scholarship may provide up to $1,500 in financial support of undergraduate study abroad opportunities and several scholarships are awarded each year. All Environmental Studies Program majors planning to study abroad are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be actively enrolled in courses at KU. 



The application form requires the name and email address for two academic references. The Environmental Studies Program will contact all references listed on applications and ask them to complete a recommendation form (link will be provided only to references). Please notify your references prior to submitting your application.

NOTE: Letters of support are not required. Any letters received in support of the applicant will be included in the documents provided to the scholarship committee, but will not be used in place of the recommendation form.


Application Requirements:

The application deadline for 2020 Summer Abroad scholarships has not yet been determined. . We anticipate making all scholarship award announcements by the end of the spring semester. Please complete the application in detail, and submit along with accompanying documents. 

Required supporting documents:

  1. KU Degree Progress Report: Submit a Degree Progress Report generated within the spring 2019 semester.
  2. Short essay (about 500 words) demonstrating how the study abroad trip relates to your area of study within Environmental Studies.
